Kevin & Connie's Wedding in Albany
Kevin and Connie's wedding in Albany was full of sweet surprises. I will always remember this wedding as the one in which I was close to losing it during the ceremony. Watching Connie walk down the aisle was a very emotional and joyous occassion. Kevin had the biggest smile and Connie was holding back tears of joy. We have so many pictures of the audience trying to hold it together. It was one of those special moments where I realize how fortunate we are to be photographing such an important event.
After the ceremony we found ourselves at the elementary school grounds next door. I love changing it up and shooting in different backdrops. The playground and colorful walls were very fun to shoot. We got into some really creative situations with the group and for a moment I thought about throwing my camera into the air for one of the shots below. I had seen this type of shot being done before, but luckily, we didn't have to throw the camera into the air as there was a balcony nearby.
The reception hall's main lights didn't work that night, so we had to shoot in near darkness! Thank goodness for external flash lighting and pocket wizards! We were able to capture some great shots of Connie's bridesmaids doing a special dance for them using our external strobes and low light lenses. The CD wasn't mixed properly in the middle for their dance, but they kept on dancing without music, just like professionals would have done. I was so impressed with them. Nothing was going to stop this wedding! We hope that this is a sign that nothing will stop you guys from staying together. Thanks so much for letting us be a part of your wild and joyful day!
Homer knew it was going to be one fine day for our couple.
I love the colors in this bouquet shot.
This is the point at which I seriously almost lost it. They were both SO happy to see eachother.
I told you they were happy.
Playgrounds are fun!
Colorful backdrops are my favorite.
Connie has a very cute and innocent face, but as her photographer I soon noticed that her best faces were the sultry ones. Isn't that funny how that turns out sometimes?
Ingrid knew exactly how to pose these ladies! Hot stuff.
The shot where I almost threw my camera up to take, but found a balcony instead. One of these days I will have to throw it up for fun.
No music was playing, but they kept on dancing and having a blast.
Marianne & Duane Reception at His Lordships
Many of you may know that Marianne and Duane got hitched in Barbados and that we were there to document their beautiful wedding. Not everyone can make it to those nice destination weddings, so they decided to throw a reception for their family and friends at His Lordships on the Berkeley Marina. This was fun to shoot, because we already knew their family from Barbados, so it was like meeting old friends again.
One of the perks of being in this line of work is getting to meet new couples all the time. I'm so glad to have met Marianne and Duane, not because they took us to Barbados or hired us as their photographers. Everytime we meet, it's been such a joy to see them and talk to them. They live in New York so it was very sad to say bye at the end of the night, because we knew it might be a while before we saw them again. We even have inside jokes already.
We've been so fortunate to have such great couples this year and feel richly blessed. One huge tip to future brides, spend as much time with your photographers as possible. That's why we include an engagement session with all my wedding packages. Because we want to get to know you and for you to know us before we shoot one of the most important days in your life.
As for the pictures below, I loved the challenge of shooting in the pouring rain and also the poorly lit reception hall. I love my external flashes and pocket wizards. They make for cool dance shots!
Marianne and Duane belong in one of those classic romance movies.
Ingrid and I were drenched at this point. Our cameras were soaked. But we got the shot! This was so worth it.
I LOVE this shot.
Filipinos gettin' down!
These two were dancing all night long.
Christine and Duane tearin' it up on the dance floor. You go girl.
Marianne and Duane playing DJ.
The younger generation getting down with Soulja Boy.
Steve & Audrey | UC Berkeley | Clark Kerr | Berkeley Marina | Target | Engagement Session
Steve and Audrey are good friends of ours and we are soooo happy for them!! They met for the first time at UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr Campus, so they wanted to relive old memories there and the first picture pretty much sums up their excitement. Steve is super athletic, so please don't try this at home or on another engagement session. Look at how much air he got!
We had so much fun shooting their engagement session, because they were up for anything! Steve is such a good sport for agreeing to get all dressed up at Target. I don't know about you, but I think he looked great in that feather boa!
Steve and Audrey are kicking off the new year by getting hitched this January! I love January weddings, because everyone is feeling great about the coming year and excited to see a new family come together. Steve and Audrey are one of the most giving couples we know. They have touched countless lives - Steve as a college minister and Audrey as a kick butt school teacher. People who know them would agree when I say that they are Rock Stars!
A little fountain action.
We hung out at this gnarly tree and then had fun throwing some fall leaves around.
This is one of my favorite engagement shots. It reminds me of the movie, Big Fish!
I love this shot of them. What are they staring at so intensely?
So many great titles come to mind when I see this picture. "Miles to go", "With you", or "Over the hill together". Anyone else have a great title for this?
RUN!
This is how good they look after that long run.
I love how Target has rebranded themselves and given themselves a whole new look. Steve is an awesome soccer player, so we had to showcase his aiming skills.
We got some funky looks from people for this one.
Target should pay us for this free advertising. It looks like they're having so much fun shopping there.
Happy Thanksgiving!
During Thanksgiving, Jerry and I like to think back to the origins of this great holiday, when they used spears to kill the great and poorly camouflaged Whooley-Turkey.
Nina & Chang Soo | Berkeley Botanical Garden | Bamboo Forest | UC Berkeley | Sproul Fountain | Memorial Stadium | Engagement Shoot
Nina and Chang Soo are close friends of mine from college. They've been together since highschool and are FINALLY tying the knot. Nina is one of the sweetest girls I know and CS is well...CS. I don't want to blow his head up here, but he's somewhat smart and one of the wittiest guys I know. He's so funny in group settings, that I sometimes secretly wish that my jokes were as good as his. I wonder if that makes me sound like a loser.
Nina is one of my top blog stalkers and has slowly converted CS into one too. So I knew going into this session that I had to kick major photography butt. Well Nina's really easy on the eyes and CS is a big ham so it wasn't too hard to make them look good. We first went to the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and got some natury shots. I love shooting there because the grounds are huge and there are tons of places to shoot.
The best location by far was Memorial Stadium though. Before Memorial Stadium, CS was like most guys and just going along with the whole engagement shoot thing. But the moment we stepped into Memorial Stadium, he had the hugest smile and was running around the whole field screaming like a little boy.
Nina looks like a million bucks and no CS I'm not hitting on your woman.
I think they told me that CS had been practicing the "look" for this shoot for quite some time now. HOTNESS!
CS's can't contain his true colors though. I didn't want to embarrass him by posting up his monkey in the bamboo forest pics.
Gotta love the reflectors in action. Don't they look like models in the pic on the right?
Nina had some really nice jeans on, but of course I had to ruin them for the look.
I will never be able to look at the student poster board the same again.
This was taken right before the sunset in pure golden light! Any Berkeley people recognize this fountain?
CS was giddy with excitement the whole time we were at Memorial Stadium. I have to admit that I was too.
It was eerie at times to see the stadium so empty. I'm used to seeing thousands of fans here.
This one is for all you Cal fans out there, GO BEARS!
I LOVE this shot! What a way to end the day.
New Banner and the ending season ...
It was time for an upgrade of our blog banner. What do you think? Yea or nay? I personally like it and am hoping later on to make it rotate images in and out every time it is reloaded. Anyone know how to go about doing that?
The 2007 wedding season is coming to a close. This coming saturday our wedding shoot with Kevin and Connie, will be the last one for the year. Don't worry, we'll be constantly posting images as we have lots of engagement sessions and other events to end the year with. Already we're looking forward to 2008 and all the new couples that we'll be working with and the past clients that we'll be seeing at those weddings.
We're so fortunate to have a great group of friends and past clients that are constantly referring us. You know who you are! We're already one third of the way booked up for next year! This time last year we weren't even close to that, but with our blog and great word-of-mouth, things have been picking up much faster.
We're also working hard on our new website and I'm so excited about that. So far the design looks great and we have tons of images to put up there. So I'm just as anxious as all of you who've been asking me. We'll be sure to make an announcement and maybe even have a party to celebrate that!
The blog has been our replacement for the website so I haven't put up much personal posts to clutter the blog, but once our website goes up, we'll be posting up a lot more personal entries with pics to boot!
THANK YOU everyone who has shown us love by commenting on our blog or emailing us. If I could I would give all of you a big bear hug and a sloppy kiss. 2008 here we come!!!
