Veronica & Paul J | San Francisco | Ferry Building Marketplace | Sur La Table | Park | Carnival | Engagement Session
I knew Paul J when he was just known as just J. I have no idea where he picked up the Paul part, but it's very cool. He's definitely one of the most down to earth and chill guys I know. Veronica is one of those girls that is so warm and full of positive energy. I've gotten to know Veronica from all the past weddings that she's been a part of as a bridesmaid and makeup artist. If any of you brides are looking for a makeup person let me know and I'll pass on the info to her. That was a shameless plug, but she's really awesome so she deserves it.
Veronica has been a blog stalker from the very beginning. I think she was the first one to comment on our blog too! She's a huge fan of theimageisfound, of which we are also ginormous fans, so we definitely wanted to bring our A-game to their shoot. This session was a lot of fun because for the first time we actually had some audience participation going on. All I had to do was ask Veronica to bat her eyelashes at various strangers and ask them to do some crazy stunts for us.
I am so looking forward to their wedding.
This was taken right next to a huge group of people having lunch at the Ferry Building.
Veronica's family are great readers so she wanted to center some of her wedding decorations around books. What a great idea. We had to grab some shots in the book store.
Vern has such killer eyes. I love the hat prop that we picked up.
Raving with oven mitts at Sur la Table. Too cool.
These guys were such great sports. I asked them to jump so many times, but it was worth it!
One of my favorite shots of the whole shoot.
Subtle flare frames the shot. I love it.
The sunset lighting in this shot is so sweet.
FUN!
We went to the Oakland carnival afterwards and snagged some fun night time shots.
Yvonne & Alan | UC Berkeley campus | Campanile | Haas | Doe Library | Pre-Wedding Shoot
We had two engagement shoots this last weekend and they were both so fun to shoot. Yvonne and Alan were nervous at the beginning of the shoot because they didn't know if they would look comfortable in front of a camera. It didn't take long for them to loosen up though. By the end of the session we were having such a great time and I think it was one of our most relaxed sessions ever! I love that they are so into each other and like to laugh a lot.
We won't be able to shoot their wedding since their Vegas venue comes with a mandatory photographer, gasp! But I'm glad that we did get this session in with them. The whole session was shot on the Berkeley campus. Kudos to those who can recognize the places where we shot at. I think the Campanile shot is the only one where we give much clues to the location on campus.
Yvonne looks stunning! Alan did a good job of framing her.
Behind us there was a group of Capoeira fighters sparring with each other. Yvonne and Alan remained professional though.
All around campus there were these messages about making love not war. This was one of my favorites.
Beautiful indeed.
I've always wanted to do a shot like this. Reminds me of something that my parents might have taken in their youth.
Such a fun couple to shoot! Alan definitely knew how to make Yvonne laugh. I think girls like that.
We looked for a grove of cherry blossoms, but could only find lone trees. So we just cut branches and found a cool backdrop. Ingrid, saw this one from afar so she gets credit for this one.
I get to take credit for finding this backdrop though. I love the compositional elements in this one.
Cindy & Dave | GAP Building | Treasure Island | San Francisco | Engagement Session
We've known Cindy and David separately for many years. During their engagement shoot, Dave reminded me of one time in college, when I messaged him a picture of an alarming piece of doo-doo that I had run into online. I still don't remember why I did that, but that (among other things) has earned me the nickname "i-poop". Jerry met David about 9 years ago when he was still in high school! Now we have all graduated and Dave is on his way to becoming a pastor and marrying the most loving person I know!
While shooting one of our first weddings, Cindy broke the news to us that they had begun dating. Our eyeballs almost flew out! I remember that she was so happy, she was visibly glowing. For some reason it had never occurred to us before that they would get together. Now that we know them as a couple, they compliment each other so well that I can't imagine them apart.
They are constantly making each other laugh. We wandered around San Francisco for a little while looking for cool places to shoot.
Cindy works at GAP and was able to let us onto their roof top terrace.
Some friends say that they look alike, if you ignore that they look completely different. hehe. I think it's in their facial proportions.
Scuzzy rosemary creatures!
The GAP building was built around this gigantic sculpture!
woah woah woah... crazy times.
Steve & Audrey | Berkeley | New Church Berkeley | Bancroft Hotel | Hargrove Music Library | Wedding
Steve and Audrey kicked off their new year with a wedding. There aren't many better ways to start your new year than to celebrate your new life togehter by throwing a huge party for all your friends and family. If you read about their engagement session, you know that Steve and Audrey are two very awesome people. They got hitched at New Church Berkeley and then headed on over to the Bancroft Hotel to party it up.
The biggest concern for all of us was the huge downpour of rain going on that whole week. Normally, shooting in light rain is no problem and is actually very fun. But, of course, we had to think of contingency plans if the rain was pouring down too hard. That saturday morning, the weather cleared up so perfectly that it seemed as though God had something to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised as so many other things came through so well for this wedding to happen.
Steve and Audrey are in New Zealand right now, but if you guys are reading this then have a safe flight back! There's a couple surprises left for you at home that I had nothing to do with.
Can anyone guess what these rings are on?
This is the girls' make up kit.
This is the guys' make-up kit.
I don't know how Cindy managed to do Audrey's make-up in complete darkness. She's so talented!
Audrey looking BEAUTIFUL!
The Bancroft Hotel had a real classy feel to it.
Audrey snuck up behind Steve when they were about to see each other for the first time that day. But when she tapped him on the back, Steve wouldn't turn around. Oh, the games we play.
Monkeying around. The whole time Ingrid was extremely anxious because this is like the oldest tree in Berkeley or something important like that and she is a lover of trees.
Steve's been waiting for this moment a very looooong time!
I love all the colors in this shot.
So cute together.
Jerry told Audrey to thrust her hip out for a pose. She wasn't quite sure she was doing it right, so Steve showed her how. I think that's almost too fierce!
I never fail to get all emotional when couples hug their parents. If you see me in the back, I'm always covering my face with the camera during these moments.
baby bell!
Steve and Audrey are near professional dancers. Actually, I think Steve is considered a pro on certain circuits. That move right there is almost as slick as The Roger Rabbit.
The girls decided to take back Audrey. Steve tried to protect her in vain.
Jackson
Most of you are familiar with Jerry and I. I would like to introduce Jackson, another integral member of our studio who mainly works behind the scenes. I wanted to post this blog to help him feel appreciated in the work place. Without him, the post-it notes would not get eaten. His tasks include sleeping on the keyboard, artistically framing our monitors with his feet, and contaminating my water.
Thank you Jackson! I don't know what I'd do without you.

Karen and David | Alameda | Christ Episcopal Church | The Officer's Club | Wedding
Finally! More pictures of Karen and David! Thanks for all the great comments. Looks like Karen and David have a million loyal fans. :)
Karen and David were married on a stormy winter day. Storms have a way of wreaking havoc on electricity, mascara, hair, fancy clothes, photography equipment, and most importantly nerves. That is why we were so impressed that Karen, David and their entourage were calm, supportive and joyful the whole day! It has been an extreme blessing for Jerry and I to work with the community at East Bay Baptist. We feel so at home when we see all their familiar faces. Thank you so much Karen and David!!
-Ingrid
Karen wore pretty and comfortable blue flats.
This Cookie Monster looked like he had received some serious love from Karen since he was a little beat up and one eye had been lovingly colored in by pen. In an act of pity for his eyeball, we fed him the rings.
Since the electricity had gone out upstairs we had to play with some interesting ways to create light. Jerry fired his flash towards a mirror and it bounced back toward him to create this cool ring shot.
Karen is so gorgeous! Our friend and future bride, Veronica, did Karen's make-up! She ran around the whole day making sure everyone looked their best. I think everyone needs a Veronica.
When all the girls were getting ready, laugher suddenly erupted from the bathroom. Apparently, Karen's sister grabbed a bottle of deoderant, thinking that it was hairspray! hahaha. I think this was one of the cutest moments. To her credit, the canisters looked exactly the same!
When I take pictures of a Bride changing into her dress, I always get a little bit nervous. If the day comes that I get married, and my photographer points a big ol' camera with a fat flash at me, and I'm only half dressed, I might just freeze up and turn red. Standing there with my fat camera, I told karen to look back at me and she gave me such a mysterious and beautiful expression. Tyra Banks would say "fierce!".
DY and DK (the Best Man) have been friends since childhood. They have such a strong bond with each other that they joked about the idea of DK giving away DY during the ceremony.
Karen had worried about marrying someone who is shorter than her. When David and Karen saw each other for the first time on their wedding day, David made sure that he was indeed taller than her.
The rain stopped just long enough to get some good shots on the bridge.
YYAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
A funny moment during the ceremony.
Christ Episcopal Church in Alamdea had an amazing balcony with just a little light coming through a stained glass window. We were able to get a bunch of dramatic portraits.
At the Officer's Club in Alameda Jerry found a nice leather couch lit by one spot light. Sometimes taking pictures inside can turn out more interesting.
The speeches were hilarious. We had just met all of these people but we were cracking up along with everyone.
Their friends were very enthusiastic about Karen and DY kissing.
Karen and David Teaser
I know there are a lot of Karen and David fans out there, so I had to just post these sizzling teasers. More to come!
