elizabeth + brendan | david girard vineyards | placerville | sacramento | wedding

This blog is as much for you guys as it is for us. When I'm sixty years old, I'll be able to look back at the blog and remember how I spent all my saturdays in the year. How many people can say that! There's so much that happens behind the scenes that I don't want to forget.

Behind the scenes: while the guys were getting ready at Brendan's parents place, I remember running into a ladder that led into a huge hole in the ceiling. The air conditioning guys were up there working, of all days! Yes, I took pictures of them of course, but they weren't pretty enough to post on the blog. I also remember sitting down with Elizabeth's uncles and eating like five bagels with cream cheese and homemade preserves. I definitely didn't feel a lack of energy that day.

I used to work with Brendan and Elizabeth at Cal when we were doing software training. It was something special to be able to come this far with them in their journey together and to have met their families. So much to say about this wedding, but I'll keep it short. It was a beautiful day.

Our fellow blog stalker and friend, Bethany, has cracked the whip on us about vendor details, so here we go!

sandy + john | cathedral basilica of saint joseph | the decathlon club | san jose | wedding

Sandy and John had a beautiful ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph, one of the most gorgeous churches that I've shot at.  Sandy and John are both easy on the eyes and have had actual experience modeling.  Beyond all this though, the thing that left the greatest impression on me was the fact that their friends really respected and admired them for who they are.  John has a heart of gold and when you're around him you really do get the feeling that he's looking out for your best interest.  Sandy is a super sweet and gentle spirit.  They're like disgustingly blessed with so much it's almost unfair.

FACT: We took so many pictures at this wedding that we filled up 80Gbs of compact flash memory cards, the most ever!  Yes, our cameras couldn't get enough of the ridiculously good looking couple.

jody + mick | st. patrick's church | san francisco | east ocean restaurant | emeryville | wedding

these days life is going by so fast that memories of our studio are dotted by these blog posts.  more and more, i get excited about these posts because i really feel like we're constantly evolving, growing, changing and in the midst of it all having a lot of fun creatively.  running your own business and managing everything is very hard work.  we work 12 hour days constantly and get sunburns from our monitors.  and just when we feel like hamsters on a huge human ferris wheel churning out work till no end, we get to see a glimpse of work that makes it all worthwhile.  i hope i never get bored of posting pictures up here for our couples and for everyone else.  when i look back thirty years from now, i hope i'll remember all the nights of working, but most importantly i hope that i never forget the moments that i've spent with all our couples.

thanks jody and mick for letting us share in something greater than just a party or ceremony, but moments that i hope to remember down the long long road.

oh and to note, we had lynn-kai chao shoot with us for the day.  it was his birthday and he gave it up to come shoot with us.  many many thanks of gratitude lynn-kai.  if you get a chance, make sure to follow his blog as well, he's got a very bright future as a photographer!

charmaine + saul | u. of san francisco | lifestyle session

sometimes as i'm crossing over the bay bridge for a shoot, i get certain feelings.  sometimes i get frustrated at the traffic on the bridge, other times i'm rockin' out to sesame street or muse, and then there are those times that i'm hoping for a good shoot.  i remember driving across and feeling a certain nothingness before this shoot.  it was like the calm before a storm.  i didn't know charmaine and saul (pronounced like sow) and had never met them before.  this was a lifestyle session and not an engagement shoot.  so the car ride over had a different vibe.  little did i know that it was going to be one of the best shoots ever!

why?  because, charmaine and saul were amazingly fun to work with.  we talked and talked and talked and did some shooting in between all the talking.  we explored nooks and crannies.  hit up some cool back lighting and found our way into a construction site!  a photographer couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and inspiring session.

the story behind this shot is that saul was charmaine's GSI as an undergrad at USF.  she got a 49 out of 50 in the class and came back to him to demand that he give her that last point for an A+.  he refused and now they're together.

we found a studio inside the school building and snuck in.

we flew to rome and back for this shot, all in one day!

my background in cinema prompted me to carry out this sequence.

Anya + Grant | Lawrence Hall of Science | Berkeley | Engagement Shoot

Anya and Grant!  If I could I would spend all my weekends with you guys exploring the world and learning from your massive combined intelligence!  Words can't even begin to express how I feel about our time together.  It was so short, yet so perfect. I couldn't have asked for a more fun-loving couple or a more perfect engagement shoot.  If only I was able to shoot your wedding as well, it would have been something else.

Thank you so much for going to great lengths to hire me for your engagement session.  I expect both of you to be Nobel laureates and world changing scientists someday!

joanne + jonathan | central peninsula church | central park | dynasty | san jose | wedding

when Ingrid told me that this blog post was ready I pumped my fist in the air and scooched back in my chair, which prepared me for the eye candy ahead. i always try to push myself even further every wedding, but I knew that Jonathan and Joanne's wedding was going to be something special. i felt it in my bones.  also, Jonathan studied art back in school so I wanted to get a little bit more creative for his artistic tastes. commentary below.

parking structure next to church = fun times ahead!

ingrid conjured up this cool shoe shot because the girls got ready in a library.  i heart c.s. lewis.

normally, bright lights and mixed lighting scare us photographers. but, this time it made for some gnarly groomsmen pics!

i never knew you could make a bridesmaid line look so cool.

looks like the hammer of God is coming straight down on them!

yes, we kicked off two little girls to get on these bad boys.

blink, and you'll miss the details.

mid day sun never looked so good.

we took these pics in the same spot where jonathan proposed.

sometimes i like to give my couples some private time together. and this is what it feels like.

my favorite portrait of them together.

jonathan serenaded joanne. he's good, real good.

this game was pretty hilarious. kinda like reverse pin the tail on the donkey. see where it is?

it was a fun night.
