lisa + jason | hotel nikko | saints peter and paul church | san francisco | wedding

lisa and jason compliment each other so well.  during their toasts i just remember thinking about two peas in a pod.  i love it when i get to see couples balancing each other out and being supportive of one another.  throw in the beautiful surroundings of san fran and you've got a pretty fun wedding.  we even got mobbed by a bunch of kids playing football near the church.  throw in some really cool garage lighting and you've got some fun pics of the day!  some highlights, enjoy!

this is a cute shot that ingrid snagged of the two mothers.

maggie + terence | pasadena city hall | first congregational church | pasadena masonic temple | wedding

lawyers know how to work it.  we were at the pasadena city hall and didn't have a permit to shoot there, because it was a sunday and who needs a permit on a sunday?  well terence used his lawyer connections to get the security guard to calm down.  after that incident maggie and terence's wedding went as smooth as butter.  we had enough time to walk around different church grounds and get some really nice shots of maggie and her dress.  they also had a candy bar at the reception, which is a win for everyone.  some highlights from the night!

maggie and her signature laugh!

the one on the right is my fav and the one of the left is ingrid's fav.

these two flower girls kept fighting over the dvd player.

the hot dog dance, never thought i'd see it before this.

amy + jeremy | ruby hill winery | casa real | wedding

amy and jeremy's wedding was a special one for us to shoot.  amy is a good friend of ours and we knew about half the people at her wedding.  most of them go or went to our church at one time and so it's like a warm fuzzy reunion/crazy dance party.  it was also the second time in two weeks that we've shot at casa real.  this usually isn't a good thing, since we like to shoot at different venues to change it up, but then that actually makes it turn out to be a great thing.  as we then realize that we have to step up our game and get even more creative with our shots.  it's a brain stretching exercise as the whole time we're shooting we're constantly looking out for even more interesting angles then last time.

we were also pleasantly surprised to find out that amy's parents loved to get down on the dance floor and that positive vibe just shot through the whole room.  amy is a very fun loving girl and now we know where she gets that from.  it was also surprising to be able to take some killer shots of jeremy, because amy was constantly telling us before the wedding that jeremy hates getting his picture taken.  not at all!  here are some highlights.

meea + bodin | east bay baptist | berkeley | wedding

we loved shooting this wedding.  first, meea and bodin were so fun and easy going the whole day.  they had complete trust in us and our crazy ideas.  second, east bay baptist people just rock our face off.  they're all so resourceful and willing to give of themselves fully to their friends time and time again.  thirdly, we worked the rooftop like it was nobody's business.  when we first got to the church we knew we had our work cut out for us.  lots of cars on the streets right up next to the church, tons of power lines everywhere, drab beige walls accented by wood trim, oh my!  but we love a challenge.  when you're handed a stunningly beautiful venue with decorations up the wazoo you don't have to be creative.  the shots just shoot themselves.

i think it's times like these that separate the women from the girls, the pros from the wannabes, the sugar from the aspartame.  many times we feel like the aspartame though, but not today!  when we did our initial walk around of the place looking for all the places we could shoot we knew the roof was it.  it also just happened to be where meea and bodin's budding romance began.  volunteering to paint the church rooftop, they met, talked, and made magic happen up there.  very sweet.

these purple velvet cupcakes were the absolute best flour sugar egg butter cream cheese water combination EVER!

we had some heavy competition from another local pro.  this is the second time that david has been featured on our blog.  he sure knows how to grab our attention.

yes these guys are local pro mc's as well.

it took me a while to find this shot on the roof, but hot diggity it was worth the wait!

the guests couldn't help but watch us at work.  i usually like privacy on the set, but they deserved the sneak peek.  now they know all my secrets.

lisa + jason | sacramento | engagement shoot

lisa and jason's engagement shoot was shot in the governator's backyard.  i had my eye out for him, but he wasn't walking about.  lisa and jason can be quite the silly couple.  we quickly hit it off from the get go and total fun ensued.  walking around the city looking for nooks and crannies is always my favorite thing to do.  i was a bit worried going to sac town to shoot, as it's not known to be as pretty as sf.  but of course it's not about the surroundings, but what you make of it.

here's just a few highlights from the session.  can't wait to post some of their wedding pics up soon from this past weekend!

jennifer + greg | casa real | ruby hill winery | st. charles borromeo church | livermore | wedding

we heart our clients. we just met with jennifer and greg today with her parents. they might become our neighbors soon as they're looking for a new place to settle into around oakland. they promised to watch our place on the weekends when we're out shooting, but we know it's only because we have a large screen projector that they'll watch movies on while we're gone. i guess that's a perk of being one of our clients, although that's not written into our contracts.

using our projector to show clients their images has been one of the best investments ever. if you think the pictures look good on a small computer monitor, then you haven't seen them in their full majestic glory on an 92" screen. plasma schmasmas can't touch that! i think the only thing that can rival the presentation is if you print your images on a 60" canvas, but try doing that for a slideshow. jennifer and greg had a beautiful wedding at the newly built casa real. below are some of our faves and if you ever want to see them in their full glory then just come over!

wency + steve | crissy field | san francisco | engagement session

we're in vegas for the massive wppi (12K+ photogs) convention and it's the last day here.  this is my third year that i've attended and i'll probably keep going back to it, because of all the friends i keep meeting here.  the workshops, platform speakers and tradeshow is absolutely nuts at times.  almost everyone has to decompress from this week of non-stop action here, but it's all worth it.  it's like being invited to a huge party of all your friends every year and that's the only time you'll really get to see them.  getting to personally meet some of the photogs that you admire and respect is also a fun perk.

last night we had the awards ceremony and we got to see all the winning prints and albums.  the winning images are always really great, but this year i think what stuck in our minds was the winning album by sallee photography.  hopefully, they'll put it up online soon and i can link to it.  lots and lots of yummy white negative space in a very clean, classy matted album.  we loooooved it, because that album design will never ever be dated.  traditional matted albums are coming back with a vengeance!

this wppi week has inspired us to step up our game to the next level.  the foundation workshop two weeks ago helped us step up another level.  i'm now pretty amped for 2009!  we've already had 4 engagement shoots and 6 weddings this year!

and what a great way to intro the super fun engagement session that i had with wency and steve.  i got the privilege of getting to know their foodie side first hand and got the inside scoop on how they met online.   we had fun playing around in crissy field and downtown san fran.  i was almost tempted to share their hot dog with them at the end of the night, but wency slammed it down the hatch as she was starvin' by the end of our session together.  can't wait to see their wedding in a month!
