Triton Museum of Art Wedding | Santa Clara | Alice + Steve

You may or may not remember our Boston engagement photography with Alice and Steve a while back, but if you know them then you know how fun and laid back these two are. It's difficult to not make Alice laugh, she's got a contagious personality that is super friendly. I knew I wanted to shoot their wedding at the Triton Museum of Art when we first talked on the phone. We hope to visit them again out in Boston when we go out for another destination wedding or engagement shoot!

Foundation Conference | Addison, TX | Nov. 3~4

So some industry news for all you photogs out there.  The Foundation Workshop people are holding their first Foundation Conference out in Addison, TX from Nov. 3rd to 4th next month.  If you haven't heard of the Foundation Workshop, then you're definitely missing out on the most intense photojournalistic workshop for wedding photographers out there.  How do you think we've been getting better and better with our photojournalism?  Well, attending the workshop has been a huge factor in helping us breakthrough certain barriers to better photojournalistic images.  I can still hear my team leader, Tyler Wirken's, voice everytime I shoot a wedding.  "Watch your corners and commit!"

All of the speakers are amazing at what they do, plus four of them are Top 10 wedding photographers in our industry.  I've talked with Ben Chrisman and he'll be cooking up something good for all of us with his friend Brett Butterstein.  If not for them, just come to meet us!  I'm bringing our whole team there of Ingrid, Aubrey, Blake and I.  Fun times ahead!

San Francisco Engagement | Genie + Kevin by Aubrey

Genie and Kevin's engagement photography was captured by our partner team, Aubrey and Blake.  I've been out to San Francisco to shoot many times, but sometimes even I get surprised at the locations other photographers may find.

San Francisco Engagement | Red Riding Hood | Rosann + Josh

San Francisco engagement sessions can be pretty much what ever you want them to be. I love it when my couples get to playing around with creative ideas and push for something a little different in their engagement photography. Rosann and Josh both work at Gaia Online, an anime-themed virtual world, so a conceptual shoot like this was perfect for this creative duo. So what happens when a little red riding hood comes through town? Well, it always seems like the big bad wolf is never too far behind.

Big thanks to my partner in crime, Aubrey, for coming out to so many engagement shoots lately to help me out. She rocks!

Princeton Chapel | Nassau Inn | Destination Wedding Photography | Marissa + James

Marissa and I go way back. I can't count the number of times we pulled all-nighters together to finish our AP US History essays for our favorite high-school teacher, Mr. Doyle. We were hard-core study buddies and I could always count on her to be up at 2am to answer a question that I had. So it was a no brainer for me to want to shoot her wedding on the Princeton Campus. I've never been to New Jersey or visited an ivy league school, so it was an exciting trip.

The best part of it was the mini-reunion that I had with my high-school friends. It was also an added bonus that I got to see Marissa's family again, because I spent so many days at their house during our crazy study sessions. I had heard a lot about James through Marissa and her sister, Annie, so it was good to finally put a face to the name. His family was also so sweet to us and treated us so well. I loved every minute of my trip out there and can't wait to go back to the East Coast to visit everyone again.

Annie, Marissa's sister, was the greatest help through the whole day.

Marissa's dad was pretty cute walking around with his Binaca and "HD!" video camera all day.

The Princeton Chapel is the biggest chapel we've ever shot at.

Marissa's mom waiting in anticipation.

Marissa used to dance, so this was her favorite part of the day.

We found a random mirror in one room at the Nassau Inn and lit her with a small video light.

Jayne + Eddie | Dolores Park | San Francisco | Engagement

How to make sure your engagement pictures come out looking like you had fun.
1. Come extremely nervous to your shoot.
2. Tell your photographer that you are awkward in front of cameras.
3. Make sure you hire a funny photographer.

So I don't consider myself being that funny.  Ingrid, tells me that I'm not that funny.  I know I'm not that funny.  I don't crack jokes or have special one liners that I use to make couples laugh.  I think I just tend to make brutally honest observations that my couples and I can all laugh about.  When I can be real and honest about the silliness of trying to make my couples look all romantic in front of a camera, then the fun begins.  I hope that helps every camera shy person feel excited about their next photoshoot!
