Just For Fun
A couple days ago, Jerry and I set up a little portrait studio area and our friends joined us to goof off in front of the camera. I'm so glad you guys don't get to see the full resolution image. Kind of like when you're staring up at the stars on a really dark night and you're amazed by all the stars that exist in the universe- while sitting here editing these, I was hynotized by all my pores.

Weekend Yosemite Trip
We went to Yosemite this weekend with some friends to get away from it all and recuperate, before our Fall wedding season. It was a welcome break after this crazy summer season. We definitely feel blessed to have done so many special weddings this summer and are looking forward to finishing strong in 2007. We've been stretched in every way this summer, from starting a new blog, attending workshops, never settling for the average image, and meeting new people all the time!
I think I'll remember this as the summer of trying something new or different every shoot. Wedding photography can become very cookie cutter if one isn't very careful. It's so easy to fall back on your "safe" shots and not risk shooting something totally different. There's all those sayings about trying your best and if you fail, try try again. It's so true in photography. You can never become the best and just shoot the same way all the time, because the moment you shoot the same shot, people get bored. We didn't come into the wedding photography world to bore ourselves or our clients with average images. We came to kick ass and be the best.
If at any time you see us doing mediocre work, then please let us know. We promise to kick it into high gear or leave this industry. In this way, we know that we've done our mission. Which is to bless all of our couples with images that they'll love.
My favorite shot of the weekend. Wish I was there again.
Kevin & Connie | Emeryville Urban Ore | Berkeley Marina | Engagement Shoot
When we asked Kevin and Connie to meet us at Urban Ore, we were so glad that they did not run away screaming from us. Urban Ore is a center for reused merchandise. Inside the very large warehouse are countless numbers of broken doors, old light fixtures, and wobbly tables, some of which we made Connie leap from. Our orginal idea was to play around with lighting, using our external flashes and natural light. If you're curious about how we got some of these cool shots, just shoot us an email.
They must have thought that we were crazy, but Kevin and Connie showed us so much enthusiasm and warmth and were willing to do anything to get the shot. We had so much fun pretending to play golf and bouncing on the rickety trampoline. I hope they had fun too.
When sunset was approaching, we hurried to Berkeley Marina's Cesar Chaves Park. Connie toted a purple parasol that we had purchased from Urban Ore and the four of us headed up a large hill only to be blasted by unusually high velocity winds. I have to give them props- our fingers were frozen, reflectors and parasols were flying everywhere, and they still managed to look great.

A father's love
So while we were doing Audrey Reeder's Album Cover shoot at the Mountain View Cemetary, Audrey had a great idea. She asked us if we could shoot Steve, her boyfriend, and his daughter, Zai, right after the shoot in the same place. This wasn't just a simple request though. This was the last time that they would be together for a while. It was a sad situation, but you wouldn't know it if you were there with us on the shoot.
We had so much fun with Zai. She was shy at the beginning and wouldn't want her picture taken, but if you know me, I love kids and if you give me ten minutes with them I'll get them to open up and be themselves soon enough. Afterwards, we went out to sushi and Zai kept stealing my seaweed salad. Spending time with them was really special and even though we just all met, I felt really connected with them afterwards. And I miss Zai already. At the end of our time, she gave me two big hugs and two kisses on my cheek! My girlfriend was jealous.
Thanks for letting us into your world Steve, you have a beautiful relationship with your daugther. It was an honor to be able to preserve these memories for you.
Here's a sneak preview of our time together.

Calah & Noe Sneak Preview
I love getting sneak previews of things to come. Whether it's movie trailers, techy gadgets, or cool events. It ramps up the imagination and allows you to fantasize about what might be coming next. This sneak preview is no exception. We had such a great time at their wedding. I love simple, down to earth weddings, they have such an organic quality to them. It was an honor to be around their friends and family who showed them SOOO much love. Calah and Noe are truly blessed. Way more pictures to come. Stay tuned.
We also added something new to our post processing too! Can you guess what it is? Leave a comment and we'll be dropping random print gift certificates worth $10 to any event that we shoot. Winners will be announced when we release their slideshow.
