Connie & Kenneth | Shin Bu Bridal | Wilshire United Methodist | Wilshire Plaza Hotel | Los Angeles | Wedding
Style. Kenneth and Connie, has gotten that word down pat. Their wedding had a grand and classy feel to it all over. Her dress was pretty amazing, with an extra long veil for cool flying in the wind type shots. Made for catching some dramatic shots pretty easy. We got tons of time to shoot with Connie at Shin Bu Bridal in Koreatown, so we had a blast trying tons of shots.
Thanks Kenneth and Connie, for letting us be a part of your day, can't wait to see how your album comes out!
The Medusa shoe shot.
Feels like a Cinderella moment.
Water fountain + rings = cool.
Guys always have tons of fun on the wedding day. Most of them probably aren't expecting to have a good time, but guys seem to really enjoy changing together in a big room and acting silly.
Palm trees in the chapel?! Crazy times!
I don't know what they were talking about, but it was cute.
We did their couple portraits in a record 15 minutes!
There was a very cool hula hoop competition during the reception. They must have cleaned out Toys R Us the day before.
Kenneth showed off his muscles for everyone in this never before seen (by us) game where you squat the bride and scream into the microphone. The next day, Jerry and I tried to see if he could squat me. It wasn't pretty.
They did the Dirty Dancing routine! I don't know how brides are able to walk in their dresses, much less do THAT dance!
Joanne + Jonathan | Levi's Building | Fog City Diner | San Francisco | Engagement Session
Jonathan and Joanne's wedding is coming up in 2.5 weeks! We've seen them at three or more weddings in just the last year, so it sometimes feels like groundhog day whenever they show up to weddings. So we're excited that they're finally getting a wedding of their own. Well, here's to even more groundhog days in the future. See you again soon!
The adorable couple! They were a little camera shy at first but they did a great job.
We wandered through a display of Levi's jeans fan mail and decided to write one ourselves. The letter reads "Thanks so much for letting us use your little red booth to shoot our engagement photo shoot. XOXO!! Jonathan & Joanne". I hope that one makes it on the display. Make us famous Levi's!
Jonathan and Joanne showing off their great smiles.
Almost every engagement session, there is at least one person who goes through lots of physical exertion. This time it was Ingrid. She had to vigorously shake the tree branches with her small frame. She apologized to the tree later.
But at least we got a really cool shot out of it!
Outside of Fog City Diner.
Cindy & David | Lawrence Hall of Science | New Church | Alumni House UC Berkeley | Wedding
We were there from the very beginning. Before "D & C" was even conceptualized. During their incubation process, we saw the signs that something serious was coming along. As their good friends, we had the joy of watching their relationship blossom into something special. And to be able to be such an integral part of D & C day was a great honor.
Can I just say that their wedding was awesome! So many friends and family members pooled their resources to make this wedding come together. From the trifecta officiating (3 pastors - his good friend Andrew, bro-in-law Dennis, and father Alan), to the flowers, to the cupcakes, all the way down to the nitty gritty decorations. That's true love folks, all wrapped up in one fat party!
Cindy's 30 lbs. dress. It took about five girls to help put it on. Like Iron Man getting into his suit. Love this shot!
Infinity Man.
C & D spelling out their initials with their fingers. David actually does this pretty frequently, as you can tell by the precision of his form.
No animals or orcas were harmed for this shoot.
Love how Ingrid executed this shot!
Cindy's hands and Dave's face.
A cute moment after the ceremony.
Cindy's father's speech was out of this world. He led us in song and dance to the melody of "Do Re Mi" called "Happy Happy C and D". With hand motions. Twice! The Sound of Music will never be the same again.
I was very surprised when I looked up and saw this. I still don't know how he climbed up 15 feet with his strapless camera. -Ingrid
I guess it was worth risking my life for.
The girls stealing Cindy back from Dave. Dave having none of it.
Joy + Royce | Yerba Buena Park | SF MOMA | San Francisco | Engagement Shoot
Joy and Royce both possess creative minds. Joy weilds the graphic design numchucks and Royce brings his killer interior design chops to form this uber artist couple. We're able to connect on that level. Well, we try really really hard.
We met Joy and Royce at Marianne and Duane's reception that one rainy night. Since then it's been fun getting to know how awesome they are in what they do.
This was a fun one to shoot. Can you figure out how we took this one?
This is our idea of fun. Lawn chairs in the middle of the park with some cool backlighting.
We kicked the kids off the slide for this one.
Maricar + James | Berkeley High School | Engagement Shoot
We're shooting their wedding tomorrow! See you guys in half a day, hope you're getting tons of rest.
A little bit about this shoot. They came to us with the groovy idea of shooting at a school. We got a tip from my friend Drew about Berkeley High. We went after school and had our way with the halls until the Janitors kicked us out. But not before we got some fun shots. Ok, time to get our beauty sleep for their wedding tomorrow!
Cindy & David | Lawrence Hall of Science | Tilden Park | Secret Spot | Engagement Shoot
For one reason or another, we know a lot of Cindys and a gazillion Davids. The day before Cindy and David's engagement session, we shot Cindy and David's Wedding. Another Cindy and David. Not the one you see here. Was that too hard to follow?
We know so many Davids that we were thinking about inviting all the Davids we know and making a huge "David" party, except we wouldn't tell them they are all Davids. The novelty of that idea would probably last five minutes at most, but we think it's the best idea, EVER!
Back to the couple. We had tons of fun with Cindy and David. David grew up in the Berkeley area so he knew all the best places to take pictures in Lawrence Hall of Science and Tilden Park. He has this secret spot up in the hills that has the best views of the Bay and cityscape. He and his buddies have been going there for years, so he had a deep connection with the space. I love it when couples let us into their secret mysterious lives!
Shout out to the new Boutwell Totally Rad Actions - The Revenge! I've been experimenting with some of them. They kick some major bootay.
-Ingrid
The sun was gorgeous, but what really struck out to me was the texture of the grass and eucalyptus leaves.
Jerry and his crazy creative imagination asked them to pretend that their hair is on fire.
David looks like a super hero in this one!
Kee & Gloria | Calvary Church | Eisenhower Park | Cosmic Bowling | Santa Ana | Wedding
Kee and Gloria would win any smiling competition. They would probably win the I'm so happy competition as well. I thought they would also wipe the floor in their own bowling competition, but it happened that Kee took that too literally. (more on that below) Good times.
Kee + Gloria + wedding = relaxing times. Kee and Gloria we just want to say thank you. Seeing my college bud getting married and being able to shoot it was something else.
The weather was pretty unpredictable leading up to the wedding so they had to move the reception indoors. We were lucky enough to have sun peaking through gorgeous clouds the whole day and no rain!
I remember thinking, "Man, I hope I laugh this much when I get married."
We rolled to nearby Eisenhower Park in the City of Orange.
Kee remembered that we had them pose around a lot of trees during their engagement shoot, so when we were walking around he kept asking if we wanted to see "the roots". We thought he meant little dinky trees with muddy roots. ha.
Our friend Joseph, the bi-lingual MC, working the crowd. He thought he bombed, but . . . well yeah some jokes fell through the cracks, but he came through like a champ and delivered some killer lines. Good job Jo!
Taken on the ice sculpture. Anyone want to guess how this shot was lit?
Korean drama movie cover, anyone?
Bowling!
This last series makes the photojournalist in me so proud. Their very first frame bowling together.
